I came from London to Logrono the end of last summer for a holiday. I discovered a beautiful place: the weather was great, the people friendly, delicious food and wine. I decided to stay and have made Logrono my home .
Many of my compatriots come to Spain for the good weather and head south. here in La Rioja we also have a great summer, but because of the four seasons, when summer comes, we really appreciate it. The milder weather and the rain in spring means that now the warm weather is here, the fields are green with the vines of the famous Riojan wine.
So it is June now in Logrono. The parks are full of flowers and the lawns green. A pleasant place to sit in the shade of the trees for a few minutes of solitude. But not for long, because the people here are sociable. For example, If you sit outside of one of the many bars, or walk the famous Calle Laurel in search of some tapas and perhaps one more glass of Riojan wine, it not long before you are chatting with a friend or a new acquaintance. And if you are planning an early night, you may miss the night life as people party here into the early hours on the weekends. However, if you are here during one of the many fiesta times, the party is all day as well as all of the night.
But head for the countryside and you will find quiet villages, and breath taking scenery: the lush valleys and dramatic mountains. The region is steeped in history. So a good guide book or someone to show you around is a good idea because there is much to discover and enjoy in La Rioja.
